Zen Novel Reader privacy policy
Zen Novel Reader does not collect your data. We have no servers, accounts, analytics or ads. Last updated October 20, 2026.
Your library stays with you
Books you save, reading positions, bookmarks, appearance settings and source choices are stored on your device. If you use iCloud, they are also stored in your private iCloud database, which only you can access; we cannot see it. Their contents are encrypted with keys in your iCloud Keychain, so Apple cannot read them either. iCloud storage counts toward your iCloud quota.
Sources you add
Zen Novel Reader includes no websites. A source is a plugin you add: a script written by someone else. When you add one and browse or read with it, the app connects directly from your device to the websites that script chooses, to fetch catalogs, book details, covers and chapters, and to the link you added it from, to look for updates. Those websites receive standard web requests (such as your IP address and the pages requested) under their own privacy policies.
Tracking services you sign in to
If you sign in to AniList, MyAnimeList, MangaUpdates or Kitsu, the app talks directly to that service: it searches for books you choose to link and updates your list there (status, chapters read, score), including as you read when that option is on. MangaUpdates and Kitsu receive the username and password you type, once; Zen Novel Reader keeps only the sign-in they return, in your device’s Keychain. Links and sign-ins stay on your device and are not synced. Each service handles your data under its own privacy policy.
Imported books and downloads
Imported EPUB files are copied into the app’s storage on your device and are not uploaded anywhere. Downloaded chapters and illustrations stay on the device that downloaded them. A library backup is saved only where you choose to save it.
No tracking
The app contains no advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs and does not share data with third parties beyond the services you sign in to yourself. Feedback you email us is used only to answer you.
Deleting data
Remove books in the app, delete the app to remove local data, and manage iCloud data in the Settings app (Apple Account › iCloud › Manage Storage).
